What is Hypnosis?

What is Hypnosis ?

The word “Hypnosis” may conjure up visions of Stage Hypnosis where people cluck like chickens, bark like dogs or sing like Elvis Presley.   Media is full of entertaining images of people volunteering and performing on stage outside of their usual comfort zone, which happens with the click of the Hypnotist fingers.   You may have even volunteered or know someone who has experienced stage hypnosis.

We reassure you that will not happen when your experience Hypnotherapy with Julie & Simon from Infinite Minds.     Hypnosis within the clinical context is very different to stage hypnosis.  Clinical Hypnosis can be a quick & focused way of helping people make positive changes  in their lives by helping them to go into a heightened state of awareness.  ie the Trance State.   Suggestions are usually accepted by a persons subconscious mind when they are in the Trance State.

One definition of Hypnosis is from Michael Yapko,  who is a Clinical Psychologist and renowned author.   He describes Hypnosis to be the:

focused experience of attentional absorption that invites people to respond experientially

on multiple levels to amplify and utilise their personal resources in a goal directed fashion.

“Trancework”,    Fourth Edition.

How does Hypnosis work?

Hypnosis takes you on a journey to a state of awareness using guided relaxation, intense focus and concentration where you can find your unlimited potential.

Deep State of relaxationWe often use Hypnosis in conjunction with other modalities such as Solutions based therapy, NLP techniques and psychotherapy.   Hypnosis can be very effective in:

Suggestions:    A person can respond to suggestions when they are in a hypnotic state.   This is why hypnosis can be effective for   people who  want to change certain behaviour such as smoking, drinking etc.

Awareness & Analysis:   Hypnosis is able to take a person into a relaxed state to explore deeper causes of issues that a person may be experiencing.  This may be linked to old negative experiences or traumatic events which may be hidden deep in a persons subconscious memory & belief systems.

What is Hypnotherapy?

By using guided hypnosis it is possible for you to go into a trance state where you will be completely in control.  In this trance state you will be aware of your surroundings and also receptive to positive suggestions.   This means you’re more likely to follow through with action taking.   By using specific techniques and language suited to the uniqueness of each person,  it is possible for you to achieve therapeutic outcomes.    We believe that everyone person has within themselves the solutions and resources, which enable them to live their life to their fullest potential.

We believe Hypnotherapy can be the key to unlock and empower your unlimited potential.

Hypnotherapy can be helpful to address and remove any blocks (which are usually at the subconscious level)  creating problems such as stress, anxiety, fears & phobias as well as unhealthy habits such as smoking & over-eating.

This is because Hypnosis bypasses the analytical or critical mind (ie your conscious mind) to allow your unconscious mind to find its own solutions and resources to resolve an issue.   We are then able to  help you communicate with the unconscious part of your mind.    By letting go of your judgmental mind  ie your critical factor,  it is possible to make suggestions to your mind which is  more likely to accept.

When Clients are motivated to change and have an attitude of “success” their mind is more likely to agree with rather than resist hypnotic suggestions.   This is why someone can not force a person to do something against their will.

Our experience has shown that it is also possible to communicate direct with your unconscious mind by using conversational hypnosis and Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP).  But that’s another story.

Hypnosis allows us to speak to your subconscious part of your mind.

Being hypnotised can be compared to being in a deep state of relaxation but may feel different for everyone.    After your Hypnosis session  you will usually feel calm, peaceful & relaxed and as if  have lost track of time.   What may feel like an hour of so, may have only been 15 or 20 minutes.

What is Hypnotherapy?

Going into a trance is natural and you have already experienced it many times each day.   You may go into a trance when you watch TV, when you drive to and from work or the shops using the same route, when you are reading an interesting book.    It may happen when you tune out from listening and even when you are checking Facebook or messages on your phone.

During these moments you might feel as though you’re “miles away” or “day dreaming” .   You may be driving thinking about what’s for dinner, what happened with the kids or your partner, or where you are going tonight.   You may not even remember stopping at that red light, or driving along that road – yet you arrived safe at your destination.

Hypnotic state requires focusWhen you are in a natural state of intense focused attention, you are able to devote intense attentiveness to particular issues of concern in your life.    During the hypnotherapy session we will offer positive suggestions direct to your subconscious mind, with very little resistance from your conscious mind.   This will then help you create profound shifts & rapid, powerful, long lasting changes in your life.  The suggestions are more likely to be accepted because they bypass the critical faculty of your mind.

Hypnotherapy is not a replacement for medical treatment, psychological or psychiatric services.  We do not treat, prescribe for or diagnose any condition.

Outcomes will vary between individuals.  We will also not use Hypnotic therapy with people with Epilepsy or who are Psychotic.

Hypnotherapy is a safe, non-intrusive, drug free process that can empower your unlimited potential.

We believe that everyone is unique and experiences the world in different ways.  You may have many inner strengths but sometimes your mind may hold you back, keeping you safe rather than moving forward to develop new ways of thinking and behaving.

Albert Einstein reminds us that,  “The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again, but expecting different results” .

We will work with you to help you find solutions, so there is less focus on problems and more focus on you finding your unique answers.

Our mission is to help you thrive rather than just survive!

One of the reasons why  Hypnotherapy can be very effective is that it enables you to access the subconscious part of your mind.   This means that you are able to gain greater insight and awareness, which would not normally be available to you in your conscious state.    You will be able to tune into inner resources and strengths that you did not even know existed.    As a result person change becomes achievable

Our intention is to assist you to move forward focusing on helping you make positive, longer term changes in a way that is easy and effortless.
